No doubt, this is a huge challenge to us. Not only that, but as you said a command to do so. Were afraid because we don't want to offend anyone but this a unrealistic way to live life. No matter what we do or how passive we may be, we will always be in a position to offend someone. In the Psalms it says that the wicked scoff at the righteous because they reprove them and do no support there works of iniquity. Let us set a trap and wait for the righteous.

I am trying to live a authentic Catholic Life in the public square so to speak but it isn't easy. I have faced a lot of resistance. On the flip side though, I have gained good friends. I think if your present your faith as something that can be compromised, people tend not to put much stock in your faith. Your faith just becomes another faith in the world of many faiths. If they see you hold fast to your faith in the midst of trials, they may want to know more about your faith and where your strength comes from.

My wife forwarded your blog to me and I saw a picture of my daughter Mackenzie with 2 girls from Guatemala. Thanks for the compliment on including her. Also, I enjoyed reading your blog and continue to enjoy the music from the family.

God's peace,

Pat

Eric and the children built a manger setting and we made a procession Christmas morning placing Baby Jesus in the manger scene and it was beautiful. Also on the feast of the Epiphany we also make a procession to place the wise men out front... Both times we are singing with guitar and drums and other children instruments and voices loud. Many of our neighbors cannot miss it...

I have a two-year-old boy, and a little girl (we think) on the way. We had family Christmas traditions growing up, but nothing like this. I have been trying to think of something to do like this with my own children that will really help them to know the true meaning of Christmas (and not the commercialism of it). I hope you don't mind if I borrow your idea -- it is the sweetest thing I've ever heard, and I would love for my children to have a memory like this.

Thank you so much for sharing it.

I remember doing this too. I am trying to do it with my kids too but I never realized what a good carpenter my Dad really was. I still haven't figured out how to build the little wooden mangers and have them last the 4 weeks of advent...
